Its Wood, known as 'desert' or 'rajasthani teak' in india, is durable and highly valued for engraved furniture, carving and toys. the heartwood contains a substantial amount of lapachol, which has antifungal and anti-termite properties.
plant parts are used for the cure of syphilis and eczema, and the bark possesses mild relaxant, cardio tonic and chloretic activities.
Biochemical analysis carried out by different research organization indicated that T . undulata leaves have oleanolic acid, compounds that are strong HIV prohibitors. Octadimethyl succinate derivatives of oleanolic acid and betulinic acid have been reported to be 24 times more active than AZT, a drug that is curently used for checking the spread of AIDS. Other compounds isolated from the leaves of T. undulata are B sitosterol, triacontanol, cirsimaritin, cirilineol, pentatriacontanol and 4,5-dihydroxy-3,6,8-trimethoxy flavones.
Both aqueous and alcoholic leaf and stem exrtracts of T. undulata showed growth inhibition of Salmonella typbi, a causal organization of typhoid fever. The analgesic potential of whole plant methanol extract is also reported.
